Optional Evening Experiences: Connection & Wellbeing in Rotorua

On Monday evening, you are welcome to join optional experiences designed to support rest, connection and wellbeing in Rotorua. Each

option reflects a different way of engaging with whenua (land), whakapapa and restoration, and all experiences are delivered in partnership with local Māori-led providers.

These activities are optional, have limited capacity, and the two offsite activities incur an additional cost.

Bookings for each activity can be made via the registration form.

Delivered by Tohu Experiences.

Experience the beauty of the Whakarewarewa Forest on an e-bike ride guided by local storytelling and cultural narratives. This is not a

typical mountain bike trail ride, but a guided journey through the forest that connects movement, whenua and kōrero tuku iho (stories of place). A unique opportunity to experience the forest in a way that is reflective, immersive and grounded in local knowledge.

A restorative geothermal wellness experience at Wai Ariki, moving through a curated journey of hot and cold therapy, including bathing

pools, sauna, steam and mud.

This experience is centred on healing and connection to Rotorua’s geothermal landscape, offering time to slow down, recharge and

experience the deep restorative qualities of this unique environment.

Marae-Based Cultural Evening Experience

No cost.

For those who prefer to remain at the marae, there will be a relaxed cultural evening experience focused on connection, creativity and

shared time together.

This may include hands-on cultural activities such as weaving, storytelling, waiata or other interactive practices guided by local

facilitators. It is an opportunity to continue whakawhanaungatanga in a calm and grounded setting within the marae environment.

This option is designed for those who wish to stay close, deepen connection within the Hui space, and continue the evening in a more

reflective and communal way.

Important Notes

  • Places are limited for paid activities and will be allocated on a first-in basis.
  • These experiences are optional and designed to support different ways of resting and connecting.
  • All options are grounded in local Māori-led businesses and relationships within Rotorua.
